The Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) has signed an agreement with PPT Public Co Ltd. to build a cancer pharmaceutical factory, the first in Thailand that will cover all types of oncology products, with the goal of reducing the cost of related drugs and treatments by more than 50%.
The factory will be located on the Wanarom Eco Zone Industries or PTT WEcoZI, Ban Chang District in the Rayong Province. A detailed feasibility study is expected to be released in approximately 14 months. The construction process is planned to start within 2022, with commercial activities expected to begin in 2027.
Cancer is the number one cause of death in Thailand, with more than 80,000 Thai people dying from cancer each year. Thailand still has limited access to imported medicines, contributing to high costs of related medicines and treatments. GPO is the main organization for medicines and medical supplies of the country. It operates a cancer medicine development program collaborating with the world’s leading cancer drug manufacturers.
