Singapore’s healthcare infrastructure is set to undergo a transformative expansion with the introduction of a pioneering hospital campus in the eastern region by 2030. This initiative, announced at the ground-breaking ceremony officiated by Minister for Health Ong Ye Kung, will significantly bolster healthcare accessibility with approximately 1,400 new beds.
The campus, situated adjacent to Bedok North MRT station, comprises the Eastern General Hospital (EGH) and the Eastern Community Hospital, collectively known as the EGH Campus. Scheduled to open between 2029 and 2030 under SingHealth’s operation, EGH will provide comprehensive emergency care along with a wide range of clinical specialties.
A standout feature of EGH is its pandemic-ready design, developed in response to the COVID-19 experience, enabling swift conversion of wards for isolation and adaptable workspaces. Furthermore, the incorporation of information technology infrastructure will enhance telemedicine capabilities and streamline operational efficiency. The EGH Campus aims to seamlessly integrate physical and digital solutions to elevate patient care standards while optimizing treatment outcomes. Meanwhile, the Eastern Community Hospital will focus on continuing and rehabilitative care, including specialized programs for palliative and dementia patients.
The Eastern General Hospital Campus represents a significant advancement in Singapore’s healthcare infrastructure, that will not only strengthen the region’s healthcare capacity, but also drive innovation in medical treatment and patient care. By 2030, the hospital campus is poised to enhance the overall healthcare ecosystem, providing a modern platform for medical advancements and improving patient outcomes.
