IMCD, a global distributor of specialty chemicals and ingredients, has opened a microbiology laboratory in Jakarta, Indonesia. The new facility will support product development across various industries, including life sciences and industrial sectors. It will cater to customers in Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Americas.
The laboratory is equipped with advanced testing capabilities and features spaces for inoculation, incubation, and analysis. It will conduct testing on bacteria, fungi, and algae to assist clients in improving product quality, shelf life, and microbiological safety. The lab also includes over 29 culture collections.
Indonesia’s growing manufacturing sector, particularly in food processing and pharmaceuticals, has led to higher demand for microbiological testing and quality control. The Indonesian food and beverage industry, for example, faces strict regulatory requirements set by agencies like BPOM (Food and Drug Monitoring Agency), which oversee product safety and quality.
In addition to testing, the laboratory will host the IMCD Preservatives and Biocides Academy, which will provide training on microbiology and preservative technologies. It will also offer services such as plant hygiene audits to help businesses maintain safe manufacturing environments free from microbial contamination.
The lab is part of IMCD’s broader strategy to expand its technical capabilities and offer localized support to its global customers. The opening of the Jakarta facility strengthens IMCD’s network of laboratories, allowing it to respond to customer needs across different regions more effectively.
