A new waste-to-Energy plant in Thailand, with an installed capacity of 4.8 MW, started commercial operations in December 2019. The facility generates Energy from industrial waste using pyrolysis technology.
The project was developed by Progress Interchem (Thailand) Co Ltd in which B.Grimm Power holds a 48% stake. The project company has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), which distributes electricity to the rest of Thailand outside the Bangkok region, for the output of the plant.
B.Grimm Power is one of the largest private power producers in Thailand, with a total installed capacity currently at 2,892 MW. With new projects already under development and construction, its capacity is projected to rise to 3,245 MW by 2025. In recent years, B.Grimm has diversified into renewable Energy and is operating 15 solar power plants and 2 hydro power plants.
Thailand’s Ministry of Energy targets to promote Energy-from-waste production to 160 MW of power and 100 kilotons of oil equivalent (ktoe) of thermal by 2021. To promote energy-from-waste production, the government has run campaigns to promote community participation in waste to energy conversion, waste sorting activities, and share knowledge with municipals, communities, the general public, and students to enhance understanding of waste management for environment and energy purposes.
