Medtech Allm Inc. of Japan Set Up Base in Southeast Asia

Nov 2022

Greater Kuala Lumpur will serve as the Southeast Asia hub for Allm Inc, a provider of digital healthcare services with headquarters in Japan. Using its Join telemedicine platform, which is new to local medical experts, the company seeks to create a stroke network throughout Malaysia.

Chief executive officer and representative director Teppei Sakano said Join is a cloud-based telecommunication app for medical professionals that allows secure communication for quick discussion in diagnosis, medical information sharing, and making treatment decisions within the hospital or facilities collaboration. For its Telestroke research projects, Allm has partnered with local universities such as Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM, Hospital UiTM and Universiti Putra Malaysia Teaching Hospital. The collaboration was to evaluate the use of the Join to improve end-to-end stroke care management.

Some projects have started since early 2022 and some are still in the discussion phase to secure the Proof of Concept (POC) projects in hospitals before commercialization. The company also conducted clinical trials with two Health Ministry hospitals to collect multi-center data on the clinical benefits of using Join as a telemedicine tool in acute stroke management. Allm’s innovative project is part of the ‘Greater KL Live Lab’ program, an initiative launched by InvestKL, an investment agency under Malaysia’s International Trade and Industry Ministry to use Greater KL as a testbed for knowledge-intensive and innovative activities while collaborating with local industry players and academia.
