Elna PCB (M) Sdn. Bhd., the Malaysian subsidiary of Global Brands Manufacture under Taiwan’s Passive System Alliance (PSA) Group, has announced the opening of its second plant in Penang, Malaysia, with an investment exceeding MYR 1 billion (USD 230 million). The first phase of production will deliver 300,000 square feet of printed circuit boards (PCBs) for sectors including automotive, servers, network equipment, personal computing, and consumer electronics.
The new five-story facility, located next to Elna’s existing plant, is dedicated to producing advanced, high-quality PCBs. At full capacity, it is expected to reach 1 million square feet to meet the growing demand for advanced PCBs. This expansion will not only increase production but also introduce advanced manufacturing technologies, enhance local expertise in PCB production, and create over 1,000 additional jobs. The existing plant will continue producing double-sided and multi-layer PCBs, while the new facility will focus on advanced production to address customers’ needs for geographically diversified manufacturing and supply chain flexibility.
As the world’s sixth-largest semiconductor exporter, Malaysia accounts for 13% of the global assembly, testing, and packaging market. Penang, a major hub for the country’s semiconductor industry, offers a strong industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce, and favorable business environment. Elna’s decision to build a new PCB plant in Penang aligns with Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), both of which aim to strengthen the value chain from chip design to wafer fabrication, assembly, and testing. The PSA Group is continuing its global expansion, with further investments in Malaysia through subsidiaries such as Global Brands Manufacture Technology, establishing EMS plants in Ipoh, and SILITECH Technology, setting up integrated design and manufacturing services in Penang and Negeri Sembilan.
