Oracle has unveiled plans to invest over USD 6.5 billion to establish a public cloud region in Malaysia, responding to the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud services. This new cloud region will provide local customers and partners with access to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and enable the migration of critical workloads, allowing them to leverage advanced AI infrastructure and services. With this initiative, Oracle aims to support the modernization of applications, the migration of various workloads to the cloud, and the innovation of data, analytics, and AI capabilities in Malaysia.
The new Oracle Cloud region will offer more than 150 infrastructure and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings to fuel Malaysia’s digital economy and drive AI-powered innovation. Customers will benefit from OCI Generative AI Agents with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) capabilities, accelerated computing, and generative AI services that help ensure sovereign AI models remain within the country. Additionally, the cloud region will feature the OCI Supercluster, which is the largest AI supercomputer in the cloud, along with access to NVIDIA’s secure and scalable platform for AI development and deployment, advancing generative AI applications.
Oracle’s decision to open a public cloud region in Malaysia aligns with the country’s New Industrial Master Plan, which envisions the creation of 3,000 smart factories by 2030. This moves highlights Malaysia’s infrastructure readiness and its growing role as a key digital investment hub in Southeast Asia. The planned expansion of OCI’s footprint across Asia Pacific to 12 public cloud regions underscores Malaysia’s potential to serve as a regional gateway for cloud infrastructure, as the country’s public cloud services market is forecasted to grow by 27.2% annually from 2022 to 2027.
