Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn Bhd has inaugurated its first local assembly plant in Shah Alam, Selangor state of Malaysia, for its premium SUV sub-brand, Jaecoo. This facility, dedicated to producing the Jaecoo J7 model, represents a significant step in Chery’s export expansion into the ASEAN market.
The assembly plant has already created 500 new jobs as part of Chery’s commitment to generating over 1,000 jobs through its local operations. The facility’s proximity to Malaysia’s second-largest port enhances its export readiness for the ASEAN region. Chery’s strategy includes investing in local vendors, which has helped reduce costs and improve the competitiveness of its locally produced components.
Since launching in Malaysia less than a year ago, Chery has made impressive strides, including the production of its 10,000th locally assembled vehicle at Inokom’s plant in Kulim, Kedah state. The new Shah Alam facility and the introduction of the Jaecoo J7 AWD and 2WD models highlight Chery’s dedication to local manufacturing and market growth, reinforcing its commitment to both product and market localization in Malaysia.
