Cathay and Singapore Airlines to collaborate on sustainability initiatives

Jul 2024

Cathay and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on various sustainability initiatives, focusing on the development and use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the Asia-Pacific region. This partnership aims to promote SAF as a crucial element for decarbonizing the aviation sector and to share best practices for enhancing sustainability performance. The MoU was signed at the 80th International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting in Dubai.

The collaboration will prioritize two key areas: advocating for greater use of SAF and exchanging best practices to reduce single-use plastics, minimize waste, and improve energy efficiency in ground and cargo operations. The airlines will work together to raise public awareness about the importance of SAF, support policies that encourage its adoption, and promote the establishment of a global framework for transparent emission reduction reporting. Additionally, they will explore joint procurement opportunities to boost SAF production and its wider use in the industry.

This partnership underscores Cathay and SIA’s commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and highlights their leadership in driving sustainability changes within the airline industry. By working together, the airlines aim to accelerate the development of sustainable solutions and set a foundation for a greener aviation industry, demonstrating the dynamic and progressive nature of the sector in Singapore and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
