Vietjet and CFM International, the Franco-American aircraft engine manufacturer, have reaffirmed their partnership with a commitment to supply over 400 LEAP-1B engines and provide technical engine services for the airline’s narrow-body fleet, valued at USD 8 billion. This agreement was formalized in a signing ceremony in Paris, attended by delegations from Vietnam and France.
The engines, stemming from two previous orders made in 2016 and 2018, will power aircraft set to begin delivery in 2025. Vietjet, which currently operates 56 Airbus A321ceo and 17 A320ceo aircraft equipped with CFM56-5B engines, will benefit from the LEAP-1B’s fuel efficiency and sustainability, in line with its growth strategy. The collaboration with CFM is expected to optimize operational costs while enhancing customer flight experience.
CFM’s LEAP engines deliver 15-20% lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, along with a significant noise reduction compared to earlier models. The LEAP-powered fleet, currently comprising more than 3,500 aircraft, has saved over 35 million tons of CO2 emissions. The agreement strengthens the long-standing partnership between Vietjet and CFM, which has already supported the airline with technical management and fuel efficiency programs for its CFM56 fleet.
This partnership further solidifies Vietjet’s commitment to sustainability and affordable air travel in the dynamic Asia-Pacific region. The collaboration also boosts bilateral trade between Vietnam and France, creating jobs, expanding tourism, and opening new opportunities for high-tech maintenance and training facilities in Vietnam.
