According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport (MoT), the international terminal at Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport is set to undergo expansion in 2024, with plans to boost its capacity from 10 million to 15 million visitors annually. In response to concerns raised by the National Assembly regarding congestion at certain international airports, the MoT outlined its strategy to address the issue by implementing targeted projects in 2024.
Particularly, the expansion of Hanoi’s T2 international terminal will add another 5 million visitors to its capacity each year. The project is anticipated to be finalized by 2026, resulting in a total airport capacity of 30 million visitors annually. International consultancy ADPi, funded by the French government, has recently conducted a thorough research on the general planning of the airport, and the foundational work has been largely completed. The MoT, in collaboration with Hanoi authorities, is actively engaged in the assessment and approval of the plan, a process slated for completion by 2024.
For the Da Nang Airport, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has allocated resources for the expansion of the T1 domestic terminal and the construction of a new terminal. The preliminary work on the planning for Da Nang Airport has been concluded. The MoT has requested the Australian government to provide assistance and select an international consultant for the evaluation and approval of the planning in 2024.
