Thai Retailers Find Alternative Sales Strategies During Coronavirus Outbreak

May 2020

In order to keep their businesses running amid the Covid-19 outbreak, retailers in Thailand are experimenting with a mix of alternative sales strategies like drive-through and calling up customers directly.

Using such methods, Central Retail Corporation Pcl (CRC), Thailand’s largest retailer, has been able to recover 30% of sales after 90% of stores in its non-food segment were ordered to close. Today, the majority of the chain’s 200 supermarkets are open, and the company expects to report only a single-digit loss in the first quarter.

Another example is represented by duty-free retailer King Power Group, which, closed all of its airport and downtown stores, and recently launched a campaign asking all employees to sell its non-duty free products, with staff posting promotions and advertising products on Facebook.
