The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has developed seven irrigation networks to support the country’s economic setback due to COVID-19 pandemic. Besides the additional irrigation systems, the Ministry also looks to build several dams throughout Indonesia.

Currently, two of the seven irrigation networks have been completed. They are irrigation area (DI) Umpu System in Lampung, South Sumatra and DI Leuwigoong in Garut, West Java, serving 7,500 and 5,313 hectares of potential area respectively. As part of the National Strategic Projects (PSN), Indonesia aims to increase agricultural productivity and water adequacy across the regions. Between 2020 – 2024, the country plans to build 500,000 hectares of irrigation systems and revamp about 2.5 million hectares of irrigation network.
