Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn will set up a facility to produce PlayStation gaming consoles in Quang Ninh province, Vietnam, as part of a USD 287.2 million investment.
Foxconn received the investment registration certificate for the project in July 2024. The facility will be located on a 12.4-hectare site within Bac Tien Phong Industrial Park, which is developed by Belgian port developer Rent A Port. Foxconn Singapore Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Foxconn, will be the investor, with its subsidiary Foxconn EV Energy & Component (Vietnam) Co., Ltd. managing the project.
The draft report outlines the project timeline as follows: pre-construction activities will take place from 2024 to 2025, followed by contractor selection and factory construction. Equipment will be imported and installed in 2026, with trial production and full production commencing in 2027.
The project is expected to create 2,405 jobs and aims for an annual output of 8.72 million units, totaling 74,596 tons. This includes 4.03 million “interactive entertainment systems,” referring to PlayStation consoles (12,846 tons), and 4.75 million “smart household devices,” specifically robot vacuum cleaners (61,750 tons).
To date, Foxconn has invested USD 1 billion in Quang Ninh province through five projects. The initial USD 137 million was allocated to building facilities at Dong Mai Industrial Park. In 2023, the company secured investment registration certificates for two additional projects totaling USD 246 million. In 2023, Foxconn’s Vietnamese affiliates reported a total operating income of USD 6.7 billion.
