Vietnam is constructing the Long Thanh Airport, is expected to cost USD 16 billion. The airport, built to accommodate 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo annually, will be the most expensive piece of infrastructure in Vietnam’s history and one of the biggest airport projects in the Asia-Pacific region.
According to current plans by the Vietnamese government, The Southern Airports Corporation will be in charge of project development, with the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) serving as the principal investor and operator.
The construction of Long Thanh Airport is broken up into three stages, the first of which will see the development of the terminal, a 4000 x 60 m runway, and facilities to handle 25 million people and 1.2 million tons of cargo annually. According to the plan, the airport’s first phase would be operational in 2025. The passenger terminal at Long Thanh International Airport will begin construction in October 2022, as announced by ACV.
The Ministry of Transport has mandated that the country’s largest airport open for business on Vietnam’s National Day, September 2nd 2025.
