The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is targeting to complete PHP trillion (USD 17.4 billion) worth of construction and rehabilitation projects involving regional airports across the country by 2023 as the department looks to boost airport terminal building capacity and improve airport facilities through technology solutions.
The nine airport development projects are as follows: Tuguegarao Airport, San Vicente Airport, Tacloban Airport, Antique Airport, Bacolod-Silay Airport, Catbalogan Airport, Davao International Airport, M’Lang Airport, Sanga-Sanga Airport in Tawi-Tawi and Ozamis Airport.
Components of each project include the construction and enhancement of their passenger terminal buildings, runways, airside, and landside infrastructure.
DOTr is also looking at modernizing existing major international gateways through ongoing projects such as the PHP 206.96 million (USD 3.7 billion) airside improvement projects at Bicol International Airport, which will see the continuation of the construction of access road, runway strip width, and taxiway drainage system.
Some 10 regional airports are also being planned to be upgraded, expanded, and operated under a public-private partnership scheme. These airports are Bohol-Panglao International Airport, Laguindingan International Airport, Bicol International Airport, Iloilo International Airport, and Puerto Princesa International Airport; Davao International Airport, Bacolod-Silay International Airport, Kalibo International Airport, Busuanga Airport, and Siargao Airport.
