VinFast, Vietnam’s leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, held a groundbreaking ceremony on July 15, 2024, for its first assembly plant in Subang, West Java. The facility will produce right-hand drive versions of its e-SUV models, including the VF 3, VG 5, VF 6, and VF 7, specifically for the Indonesian market. This initiative is part of VinFast’s broader plan to expand its footprint in Southeast Asia, with Indonesia positioned as a key market for EV growth.
The plant, which spans 170 hectares, is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2025 and will have the capacity to produce 50,000 vehicles annually. It will feature production facilities such as a body shop, general assembly area, paint shop, and testing zone. The project represents an estimated USD 200 million investment.
VinFast’s move into Indonesia is anticipated to create thousands of jobs and contribute to the economic development of Subang. The location was chosen for its strategic potential as an emerging industrial hub with developing infrastructure, which is expected to improve the efficiency of component sourcing. Indonesian officials, including Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, have welcomed the investment, citing the positive impact on regional economic growth and job creation. This development reflects Indonesia’s growing role in the global shift toward electric vehicles and green transportation.
