Singtel, Singapore’s telecommunications company, through its regional data center arm Nxera, and Malaysian telco provider, Telekom Malaysia (TM) are collaborating to develop data centers in Malaysia. This data center campus will be the largest for both TM and Nxera.
Located in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, the center’s proximity to subsea cable links between Singapore and Malaysia positions it well to support the increasing demand driven by digitalization and development initiatives in both countries. It will feature a sustainable, hyper-connected, AI-ready infrastructure, designed to meet the highest standards of reliability, security, and sustainability while providing optimal local and international connectivity. The campus will initially have a capacity of 64 megawatts (MW) but is designed to expand up to 200 MW based on market demand. This high-power density facility will support large-scale computing and AI capabilities required by cloud hyper scalers and GPU-as-a-service providers and will utilize advanced technologies such as liquid cooling to manage high-power density operations efficiently. Additionally, the data center will be a LEED-certified green building, highlighting its commitment to energy efficiency and sustainable practices.
TM will leverage its extensive regional experience in network infrastructure to offer a customized suite of wholesale data, connectivity, data center, and platform solutions to address both local and global needs. The strategic partnership will also enhance submarine cable connectivity between Singapore and Johor and involve collaborations with Malaysian higher education institutions to develop industry talent. This venture aims to serve hyper scalers, next-generation AI application providers, and enterprises pursuing accelerated digitalization and cloud services in the region.
