Singapore will continue and complete its mega infrastructure projects, including key projects such as Changi Airport Terminal 5, Tuas Mega Port, and submarine cable hubs, despite the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, said Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing in a National Broadcast. Besides, various regional developments such as Punggol Digital District, Jurong Lake District, Sungei Kadut Eco-District, Greater Southern Waterfront will continue to go ahead.
Although the timelines for the project might differ from the original timelines, based on the demand, Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing provided assurance that Singapore will get all of the projects done. The Minister identified infrastructure projects as “key enablers” and confirmed the Government still sees infrastructure as a critical investment for future generations.
He also reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to free trade with no export restrictions imposed, free movement of goods and no foreign investments nationalized. In his words, Singapore “will work to stay connected with the world, even as the world threatens to fragment and regress towards protectionism.”
