The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) will incorporate advanced fourth industrial revolution technologies to enable more effective and faster operations. Advancements include those in robotics, data analytics (DA) and artificial intelligence (AI). These technologies will open new possibilities for the RSAF to be more agile, resilient and efficient in airpower generation.
One of such technologies the RSAF is trialing is a new enhanced combat aircraft munitions loader for fighter aircraft. The enhanced munitions loader incorporates a range of technology enablers such as data analytics and robotics developed by the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) in partnership with the RSAF, which enables it to save both manpower, as well as result in more timely air defense responses. The enhanced munitions loader can be operated by only one personnel – compared to the usual three-person loading team required for the service’s existing systems – which also results in up to 66% of potential manpower savings. It is also equipped with omni-directional Mecanum wheels, making it highly maneuverable in tight spaces such as aircraft hangars. Following the completion of trials, the enhanced munitions loader is expected to be deployed for operations this year.
