Shell to Construct Indonesia’s Frist Grease Manufacturing Plant

Apr 2024

Shell, an international oil and lubricant company, has begun constructing Indonesia’s first Grease Manufacturing Plant (GMP). It represents an additional investment alongside Shell’s existing Lubricants Oil Blending Plant (LOBP) in Marunda, Bekasi, West Java.

According to Jason Wong, Executive Vice President of Global Lubricants at Shell, the new factory will have an annual production capacity of up to 12 million liters, ranking it as Shell’s third-largest facility globally. Shell is operating a factory nearby North Jakarta, initially capable of producing 136 million liters annually, and now doubling its capacity to 300 million liters yearly.

Andri Pratiwa, Managing Director of Shell Lubricants in Indonesia, stated that the upcoming factory will manufacture products under the Shell Gadus brand. These products have applications across diverse industrial sectors, encompassing areas such as mining, agriculture, power generation, and manufacturing. The priority lies in catering to domestic consumption.

In 2015, Shell made its initial investment in Indonesia with the establishment of its largest lubricant oil blending plant, known as the Shell Lubricants Oil Blending Plant (LOBP) in Marunda, Bekasi. The facility manufactures a range of lubricant products, encompassing Shell Helix (for car engines), Shell Advance (for motorcycles), Shell Rimula (for heavy-duty diesel engines), Shell Spirax (for transmissions), and various other industrial lubricants.
