Samsung Subsidiary to Constructs Manufacturing Facility in Thailand

Jul 2024

HARMAN, an electronics technology company and subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., has initiated the construction of a new manufacturing facility in Thailand with a groundbreaking ceremony today. The facility, spanning approximately 47,000 sqm, will be situated 125 kilometers from Bangkok in Laem Chabang, within Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), near numerous leading global automotive and technology manufacturing sites.

This investment aligns with Thailand’s broader economic development strategy, aiming to foster technological advancement and establish a robust next-generation automotive supply chain. Additionally, the new facility will stimulate the local economy by offering workforce training and creating 1,200 job opportunities for local workers.

The facility will support several of HARMAN’s automotive business units, focusing primarily on developing products for its automotive division. HARMAN, a global leader in connected vehicle products, utilizes technologies like Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence.

HARMAN emphasizes the benefits of expanding its manufacturing footprint in Thailand, citing the region’s rich talent pool and proximity to OEM partners. Thailand’s transformation into a major production hub for electric vehicles and advanced automotive technology supports HARMAN’s decision to invest in the region.

HARMAN is collaborating with ESR Group Limited on the facility design and build, adhering to FM Global standards and aiming for LEED Gold certification, aligning with Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green economic development concept.

Globally, HARMAN operates automotive manufacturing facilities in Brazil, China, Hungary, India, and Mexico, employing over 12,000 people. Thailand was chosen for its high vehicle production volume, significant OEM presence, and talent-rich environment. Construction is expected to complete by Q4 2025, with local hiring for select roles beginning this fall, targeting a workforce of 1,200 by the facility’s opening in 2025.
