Envicco, a joint venture established by PTT Global Chemical, has initiated a plastic waste recovery and recycling project recognized for its potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Located in the Asia Industrial Estate in Rayong province, the project focuses on collecting, sorting, cleaning, and converting plastic waste into eco-friendly plastic beads that meet international standards.
These recycled beads have a carbon footprint approximately 60% lower than their original plastic counterparts. Through this project, Envicco aims to recycle over 430,000 tonnes of plastic waste between 2023 and 2029, which could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 574,700 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent.
Recently, the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation (TGO) approved the project to generate 18,254 tonnes of carbon credits under the Standard Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction Programme (Standard T-VER). These credits can be applied to offset emissions across various activities, such as production processes and events.
Envicco’s managing director, Natthanun Sirirak, emphasized the company’s commitment to developing sustainable products and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. By collaborating across sectors, Envicco promotes a circular economy and raises awareness about responsible plastic use. He anticipates that this initiative will play a vital role in advancing Thailand’s recycling industry and reducing environmental impacts.
