Mondelez Philippines Taps Energy Development Corp for Geothermal Energy

Mondelez Philippines, the Philippine subsidiary of global snacks manufacturer Mondelez International, has tapped Energy Development Corp (EDC) to supply renewable Energy to one of its Manufacturing plants in the country.

EDC is the largest geothermal power producer in the country and its Bacon-Manito geothermal plant located in the Bicol region will power Mondelez’s Manufacturing plant in Sucat, Paranaque which will now be 100% supplied by geothermal Energy.

In addition to geothermal Energy, Mondelez Philippines also has other renewable Energy developments including a biomass boiler which uses biodegradable source of fuel, a rainwater treatment facility that lessens water waste, plastic waster recycling projects and solar power systems.

The company’s shift to renewable Energy is in line with the 2020 sustainability goals of Mondelez International in which it aims to have a 15% reduction of its absolute carbon dioxide emissions in its Manufacturing operations.
