Independence X Aerospace, an aerospace tech company from Malaysia, has invented the world’s smallest satellite. The satellite is measured at 30mm and is fully functional in orbit. The satellite has been validated by industry experts at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC2022) in France.
The company’s Femto-class GerhanaSAT satellite has two versions: the Consumer Version (CV), which has a 32mm cube edge length, and the Space Version (SV), which measures 30mm. The satellite has a two-year orbital lifetime and can be deployed as a constellation for constant connectivity or as a single satellite for patchy communication. IoT communications, drone telemetry and telecommand, and walkie-talkie speech can all be carried out using the GerhanaSAT satellite. Additionally, fleet management, UAV and unmanned operators, and the agricultural industry can all use the satellite.
Independence X Aerospace has obtained numerous orders for at least 520 satellites for both variations and requests, primarily from Europe and the US as well as areas of the Middle East and Africa, with a contract worth more than USD 1 million (MYR 4.5 million). The company has also inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for a commercial space contract with SpaceBorn United B.V. of the Netherlands to develop and supply Space Re-entry Vehicle (MERCAP, Microgravity Experiment Re-entry Capsule) for use in orbit by European Space Bio-Technology R&D.
