The Railways Strategic Business Group of L&T Construction has recently won a contract to build the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Project (Phase 2A) for MRT Jakarta. This contract marks L&T’s first EPC Railway Systems Order in the ASEAN region and comes through its partnership with Sojitz Corporation, a Japanese company. L&T refrained from disclosing the exact contract value, categorizing the win as significant, indicating a range between USD 120.7 million and USD 301.7 million.
The contract encompasses the acquisition and implementation of numerous systems across diverse areas, following a design-and-construct approach that includes comprehensive system integration. The project’s scope encompasses Trackworks, Overhead Contact System, Substation System, Power Distribution System, Signaling System & Telecommunication Systems, SCADA Facility, Platform Screen Doors, and adaptations to the equipment installed in the existing OCC, as well as the stations/train sets from Phase-1.
The Jakarta MRT Phase 2A expansion entails extending the existing MRT line from Bundaran HI to Kota. This section will cover approximately 12.5 kilometers and include the construction of seven underground stations. As of December 25, 2023, progress had reached 6.96% with work including traffic engineering management and road widening on several roads crossed by MRT. MRT Phase 2A is set to be completed in March 2025.
