A contract worth IDR 4.7 trillion 8around USD 250 million) has been signed between PT MRT Jakarta and Japan’s Sojitz Corporation. The agreement aims to extend the integrated highway (MRT) route from Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout Station to Kota Station. The current MRT line has a length of 16 km, connecting Hotel Indonesia area in Central Jakarta and Lebakbulus area in South Jakarta.
As part of Phase 2A construction, MRT Jakarta aims to establish a connection between HI Station and Kota Station. The contract recently signed with Sojitz is included in the CP205 contract package. The CP205 contract extends for a duration of 75 months, concluding by the end of 2029. Tuhiyat, the Main Director of MRT Jakarta, emphasized that the collaboration encompasses tasks related to rails, train systems, and signal systems.
Tuhiyat mentioned that MRT Jakarta encountered challenges in tender procurement, facing setbacks in securing a contractor on three occasions. He highlighted that factors like the Covid-19 pandemic, semiconductor shortages, and global geopolitical tensions posed significant obstacles during the tendering process.
The Phase 2A construction, spanning 5.8 kilometers, will incorporate 7 new stations: Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and Kota. MRT Jakarta aims to establish the connection between Bundaran HI Station and Monas by 2027. Meanwhile, completion of the construction to Kota Station is anticipated by the conclusion of 2029.
