In July 2021, Teijin Carbon Vietnam Co., Ltd (TCV) began commercial production of carbon fiber goods such as prepreg, a fiber sheet pre-impregnated with matrix resin as an intermediate material for composites. The factory is located in Ha Nam province. Initially, TCV will manufacture carbon fiber materials for sports and outdoor activities such as fishing, golf, cycling, and ice hockey goods for markets in the Southeast Asian, South Asian, and Asia-Pacific regions.
TCV was established in May 2019 by Teijin Limited, a Japanese chemical, pharmaceutical and information technology company, to capitalize on the growing demand for carbon fiber. The company’s affiliates in Singapore, Shanghai, and Taiwan are responsible for identifying demand possibilities and providing customer service across Asia.
Increasingly strict environmental measures and the upgrading of environmental frameworks, such as sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement, are expected to stimulate greater use of lightweight and highly rigid carbon fiber. Demand is growing in Asia, especially in the fields of sports and outdoor activities, industry and aerospace. The Covid-19 epidemic has led to new trends in sports and outdoor activities, such as renewed interest in fishing due to its compatibility with social-distancing protocols.
