A Vietnamese enterprise has been awarded USD 2.96 million by the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City for the implementation of an advanced energy storage pilot project in Khanh Hoa province. The project, known as Battery Energy Storage System Pilot Project, will illustrate how modern energy storage can minimize power losses and support Vietnam integrate more renewable energy into the country’s power system. The project builds on a study conducted by the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) in 2018 for the country’s state-owned Vietnam Electricity (EVN) to evaluate the feasibility of installing advanced energy storage technologies in Vietnam.
AMI AC Renewables, a joint venture between AMI Renewables of Vietnam and AC Energy of the Philippines, was assigned to undertake the project. The advanced energy storage project will be developed and integrated with a 50 MW solar farm managed by AMI AC Renewables in Cam Lam District of Khanh Hoa Province, with the purpose of showing that it can assist the country in integrating renewable energy into its power grid.
Vietnam aims to diversify its energy sources, focusing on developing clean and renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, biomass, and waste. In addition, the country targets to increase clean energy’s share of total energy supply to at least 20% by 2030 and 30% by 2045.
