PT Asiabeef Biofarma Indonesia has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Agropecuaria 31 (31 Group) for the importation of 100,000 tropical dairy cattle from Brazil, with the deal valued at approximately USD 290 million. The Indonesian Agriculture Minister noted that this large-scale livestock development initiative will enable Indonesia to fulfill its beef and dairy requirements domestically, reducing reliance on imports. Additionally, the investment is expected to generate new employment opportunities across various sectors within the livestock industry.
Following discussions with Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Indonesia’s Agriculture Minister noted that several major Brazilian companies have expressed strong interest in Indonesia’s livestock sector. He emphasized that this enthusiasm from Brazilian businesses could lead to additional agreements focused on livestock development, further strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The Indonesia-Brazil bilateral meeting took place following the G20 Agriculture Ministerial Meeting (AMM) in Chapada Dos Guimaraes, Brazil. During the meeting, the Indonesian Agriculture Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming the country’s agriculture and food systems using a comprehensive, holistic approach.
The minister emphasized that the government’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector has yielded positive results. He stressed the importance of taking swift and strategic actions in agriculture, particularly in light of projections that the global population will reach 8.6 billion by 2030.
