FPT, Vietnam’s leading information technology firm, has partnered with Schaeffler, a German automotive supplier, for a digital manufacturing initiative. This cooperation is a part of Schaeffler’s global pilot project for a new digital manufacturing concept and it is being deployed at Schaeffler’s manufacturing plant in Vietnam’s southern Dong Nai province.
Schaeffler’s products include high-precision components and systems for engine, transmission, chassis applications, rolling and plain bearing solutions for a variety of automotive and industrial applications. Its Vietnam plant was inaugurated in May 2019 with an investment of EUR 45 million and equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and machinery. Since the start of operations, the company has added two production lines including one for the flagship product Needle Roller Bearings and it is expecting three more lines to be added by the end of 2020.
FPT, which offers services in the areas of Smart factory, Digital platforms, RPA, AI, IoT, Enterprise Mobility, Cloud, AR/VR, Embedded Systems and more, has been working with Schaeffler on its digital transformation efforts since 2018.
In October 2019, the government of Vietnam signed Resolution No.52-NQ/TW with a number of guidelines and policies to ensure active participation from all key stakeholders in Industry 4.0 development. As part of this resolution, the National Assembly, the government, ministries and sectors and localities will jointly participate in implementing concrete programs and plans to promote Industry 4.0 nationwide. By 2030, the country aims to be among the top 40 countries in the world in the Global Innovation Index (GII) rankings, with the digital economy accounting for over 30% of GDP.
