Big C Expanding to Cambodia

Thai grocery and general merchandising retailer Big C has just opened its first store in Phnom Penh, Cambodia´s capital. The opening of the first store in Phnom Penh is part of Big C’s expansion drive in Southeast Asia. The company has announced plans to spend close to USD 250 million on business expansion in 2021. Under its five-year plan, the company aims to become the most important retailer in Cambodia, targeting large cities such as Siem Reap and Battambang. The formats include hypermarkets, supermarkets and Mini Big Cs.

Big C is currently the second largest hypermarket operator in Thailand with USD 4.4 billion total in revenue in 2020. It is owned by Berli Jucker Plc (BJC), one of the largest business conglomerates in the country. Big C plans to open two hypermarkets in Thailand and 150 Mini Big Cs by the end of 2021.

Big C owns and operates 1,572 retail stores in Thailand, including 1,215 Mini Big C, 152 Big C hypermarket and 61 Big C market. Aside from Cambodia, the company also has a presence in Malaysia, Vietnam and Laos.
