In March 2024, a large American business delegation, which includes Meta, Boeing, and wind energy company GE Vernova, visited Vietnam to seek investment opportunities with local partners. The business trip indicates sustained corporate interests in the Southeast Asian country following the recent elevation of diplomatic relations.
The US-ASEAN Business Council, which brought a similar-sized delegation to Vietnam in 2023, welcomed about 50 companies on this visit. The list of companies had drawn the attention of local and global newspapers because it included several conglomerates, such as Koch Industries, UL Solutions, insurance giant Chubb, gaming company Roblox, weather forecasts provider ATMO, and an energy firm.
Many of which have been engaging actively in business activities within Vietnam. Notably, Meta’s Facebook platform boasts more than 60 million users in Vietnam, making the country one of its top global markets.
Shortly before, a smaller delegation from security firms had visited Vietnam and worked to explore potential business prospects with representatives from Vietnam’s Ministries of Defense and Public Security.
In 2023, Boeing inked a preliminary agreement with Vietnam Airlines for the purchase of 50 of its 737 aircraft. President Joe Biden’s administration elevated relations with Vietnam, emphasizing increased collaboration, particularly in the semiconductor sector.
