Indonesian Air Force Launches New Cyber Unit

Oct 2020

The Indonesian Air Force has created a new Cyber Unit to confront potential cyberattacks or threats of cyber warfare. The Cyber Unit, established under the Air Force’s security and encryption agency, is tasked with preventing and responding to cyberattacks against the Air Force’s infrastructure.

The Air Force already expressed interest in developing cyber capabilities back in 2018, when the previous Air Chief Marshal Yuyu Sutisna highlighted the importance of cybersecurity. In 2017, the Indonesian Military also established a cyber unit to protect strategic military data, information, and resources.

Additionally, the Indonesian Air Force earlier this year acquired an air-defense radar system from Italian defense group Leonardo. The radar system works as an early warning surveillance system and enables it to effectively combat air and missile threats.
