Hyundai to Roll Out First Singapore-Assembled Cars in 2023

Feb 2023

Hyundai Motor’s assembly plant in Singapore is set to begin producing the electric Ioniq 5 in the first half of 2022. The plant is located at the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre in Jurong and is now expected to be finished by April 2022. The plant will initially import the car’s fully painted body shell from Indonesia, with all other parts shipped in from South Korea.  Hyundai plans to source parts from Singapore’s automotive component makers as production ramps up. The highly automated assembly will be manned by no more than 30 people and is slated to produce up to 30,000 vehicles annually by 2025, including the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Kona Electric.

Hyundai’s Jurong facility, built at a cost of SGD 400 million (USD 300 million), will include a customer center where car buyers can place an order for an electric car and pick it up there.
