Tender for Five Vegetable Farming Sites Launched to Boost Singapore’s Food Resilience

Nov 2023

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) recently announced the launch of a tranche of 5 land parcels for vegetable farming in the Lim Chu Kang and Sungei Tengah area, with public tenders for the parcels being accepted. Each land parcel is expected to be between 20,000 and 20,300 square meters large, and has been allocated for growing leafy vegetables, fruited vegetables and mushrooms. This marks the seventh tranche SFA has launched since 2017, as part Singapore’s “30 by 30” vision, which aims to build an agri-food industry with the capability and capacity to sustainably produce 30% of Singapore’s nutritional needs by 2030.

As less than 1% of Singapore’s land is set aside for food production, farms need to leverage on technology and innovation to increase productivity and be sustainable and resilient against climate change. Land tenders are tailored to support promising farms with feasible/concrete plans while incorporating sustainability and circular design concepts, hence proposals that can achieve sustainably high production levels will have a higher chance of being awarded these land parcels. Proposals will be assessed on their merits, in terms of production capability, track record, relevant farming experience and qualifications as well as innovation and business sustainability. The SFA will also work with farms, including successful tenderers in the land tender exercises, to transform Singapore’s agri-food industry and bolster the country’s food security.
