Filipino conglomerates have expressed interest in funding and building the Philippines’ first National Center for AI Research (N-CAIR) which was one of the components of the National AI Roadmap unveiled by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in May 2022. The said AI Roadmap aims to position the Philippines as an AI Center of Excellence in Southeast Asia.
N-CAIR will serve as a shared hub for AI research and home for capacity-building for companies to be able to produce new products, and processes, and provide services using AI. These will be achieved by applying AI in their operations. Potential areas of application are preventing spoilage of agricultural produce, predicting maintenance of equipment and optimizing processes in factories, and enhancing business decision-making through advanced analytics.
The private sector is already preparing to register the project with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
