Conditional Approval for Partnership Between Singaporean and Malaysian Airlines

Jun 2022

A partnership agreement between Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) was granted conditional approval by the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS). Both the airlines had initially signed the agreement’s proposal in 2019 but got conditional approval on May 10, 2022, after the clearance assessment from CCCS.

The agreement includes collaboration in terms of sales and marketing, as well as revenue sharing, and code-sharing. The agreement is subject to CCCS’ review, once flights within “overlapping direct routes” between Singapore and Malaysia showed signs of returning to pre-pandemic activity levels.

On the other hand, the CCCS was reported as saying that although it noted issues raised by third parties, the commitment undertaken by the two flagship carriers would accommodate increased assessment of these issues once there was sustained recovery in the aviation industry.
