Currently, Alibaba Cloud has two data centers in Indonesia, with the first constructed in 2018 and the second in 2019. The company entered the market since 2016 to address needs of customers from e-commerce, finance, logistics, gaming, education and media. Alibaba Cloud has partnered with PT IndoInternet to distribute its cloud computing products and services.

Alibaba will also open its first data scrubbing center in Indonesia to assist customers, especially in the finance and gaming sectors, defend against distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks by detecting, analyzing and removing Tbps-level large volumes of malicious traffic. It is expected that the data scrubbing center will be unveiled in 2021.

Besides Alibaba, Google has also launched Google Cloud to tap into the lucrative public cloud market. The new region will have three cloud zones, where customers can access a variety of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, from Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine to BigQuery. Prior to its expansion, customers in Indonesia have been subscribing to neighboring cloud regions such as Singapore and Sydney.
