Wabtec (Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies) has won an order from the Hyundai Rotem Company to supply key components for train cars to Singapore Mass Rapid Transit’s (MRT) new Jurong Region Line. Wabtec will supply 186 Metroflexx brake systems for 62 new, automated three-car trains.
The deal is highlighted as being the first time the Metroflex brake system is being deployed in Asia. Metroflexx is Wabtec’s next-generation braking system for the mass transit rail industry, outdoing traditional electro-pneumatic brake systems. Certified by TÜV SÜD, Metroflexx can significantly reduce the weight, energy consumption, and lifecycle cost of a train.
“The Jurong Region Line is a critical project for expanding and enhancing Singapore MRT’s service,” said Lilian Leroux, President of Wabtec’s Transit business. “This order builds upon our long-standing partnership with the MRT. The solutions Wabtec is providing for these new transit cars will improve the rail system’s operations and the passenger experience.”
In addition to the Metroflexx brakes, Wabtec will provide 372 roof-mounted air conditioning systems and more than 1,100 external sliding ES2-type doors.
All systems will be delivered with embedded condition-based maintenance capability.
