The Vietnamese automotive industry is rapidly adopting artificial intelligence (AI) applications. In a prominent example, Vin AI Artificial Intelligence Application and Research JSC (part of Vingroup) recently debuted its two AI-related products: Driver Monitoring System – DMS and Advanced Surround View Monitoring – ASVM.
In order to reduce accidents brought on by driver distraction, DMS analyzes driving habits using high-quality cameras mounted inside a car and AI technologies. In the future, DMS will be able to monitor the health of drivers, particularly whether they drink alcohol or not, and recognize the presence of children and pets in vehicles. As for ASVM, it provides a 360-degree (top-down, rear, side of wheel) and 3D perspective to help drivers navigate congested or narrow roadways and park their cars. The software gathers high-resolution photos from three fisheye cameras positioned around an automobile, in addition to sophisticated image-combining algorithms.
According to a report from VNG Corp., there 100,000 cars in Vietnam installed Kiki, an AI assistant created by Zalo, from August 2021 to August 2022. This illustrates the demand among Vietnamese drivers for voice-activated devices for entertainment and every day chores including navigation, music listening, and news retrieval. Kiki offers a hand-free experience, which is particularly suited for drivers of cars because they feel safer taking care of their own needs.
