The Belgian Vietnamese Alliance (BVA) and the Flanders International Technical Agency (FITA) recently held a workshop in Brussels highlining Vietnam’s potential in renewable energy and sustainable port development.
Titled “Vietnam as Your Green Business Opportunities Destination”, the workshop illustrated how Belgian companies can help Vietnam to increase capacity to generate renewable energy, especially solar and wind power, thus contributing to the country’s net-zero emission goal by 2050.
Addressing the event, the Chairman of the International Port Engineering & Investments Ltd (IPEI) stated that Vietnam must concentrate on improving its electricity infrastructure, enhancing the connectivity of offshore wind farms to the coast, and redefining the cost of offshore wind power development activities. Currently, the company is assisting Vietnamese partners in building wind power plants in the country’s south-central Binh Thuan province in order to strengthen investment in green energy.
For the 2020–2022 period, IPEI is piloting a “Water by Wind” model in the Ninh Thuan province. The project’s goal is to supply fresh water for agricultural production and household consumption in areas with challenging environmental conditions, such as those in the Mekong Delta region through the use of a water desalination system powered by wind and solar energy.
During the workshop, it was also mentioned that the Green Economy Expo and Forum (GEFE) 2022 will be held from November 28 – 30 in Ho Chi Minh City by the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham). European businesses and agencies, including those from Belgium, have been invited to offer their sustainable solutions and support a green Vietnamese economy.
