Lam Research Corporation, a California-headquartered global supplier of innovative wafer fabrication equipment and services to the semiconductor industry has selected Batu Kawan Industrial Park in Penang state, Malaysia as the location for a new advanced technology production facility.
The facility will be located in a 700,000 square feet space at the beginning, with the opportunity to expand in the future. The construction is commencing in early 2020, with the first shipment to be produced by 2021. There will be up to 350 additional jobs created over the next three years, including roles in Manufacturing, facilities and on-site shipping and receiving.
The new facility in Malaysia will support the company to provide additional capacity, guarantee business continuity for critical activities, and improve its speed to delivering solutions by being closer to customers and suppliers in the region. Lam’s existing global production footprint encompasses locations in the United States, South Korea, and Austria.
