CapitaLand, the operator of Singapore’s largest mall network, launched an e-commerce platform eCapitaMall in June, as well as an online food ordering platform Capita3Eats, to complement its existing physical presence through shopping malls. The company announced that the objective was to drive sales for retailers during the Phase One reopening of Singapore following the COVID-19 outbreak (retail outlets have been permitted to re-open physical outlets since the commencement of Phase 2 on 18 June).
CapitaMall is a curated digital mall featuring the merchandise of retailers, the majority of whom also operate in CapitaLand’s Singapore malls. It offers shoppers the flexibility to browse online before purchasing in-store or browse in-store before purchasing online. For online purchases, shoppers can opt for home delivery or in-store collection.
Capita3Eats is Singapore’s first mall-operated food ordering platform that offers consumers three ways to fulfil their food orders – delivery, takeaway or dine-in
Chris Chong, managing director of retail at CapitaLand Singapore said that “the ‘circuit breaker’ (the local term for Singapore’s lockdown measures) has brought to the fore the importance of an omnichannel, 24/7 strategy for Singapore’s retailers. CapitaLand aims to support retailers to reach more consumers and generate online business opportunities by leveraging the digital capabilities of CapitaLand and the 1 million CapitaStar (the company’s rewards system) members in Singapore.
