In a statement recently made by Malaysia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, it was announced that Malaysia and Singapore intend to expand their current level of collaboration in modern agriculture to improve the food security in their countries. During a visit by Singapore’s High Commissioner to Malaysia with the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, various matters related to the agricultural sector was discussed, such as the significance of developing modern agriculture and the application of smart technology in the agricultural sector.
With food stability being a key issue that needs to be addressed by the two countries, Malaysia has invited Singaporean players to invest in the modern agriculture sector in Malaysia, so as to be jointly able to increase the food supply. Sharing its technology and expertise in the field of smart agriculture would help to guarantee a sustainable and continuous source of food supply for both countries. It is also expected to strengthen bilateral trade in the field of agriculture, which amounted to USD 3.6 billion from January to October 2022.
