The Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation Inc. (SEIPI) plans to work with industry associations in Malaysia and France to implement activities, including research and development (R&D) and training to help promote the growth of the Philippines’ electronics industry.
SEIPI is looking to partner with the Semiconductor Fabrication Association of Malaysia (SFAM), which is the umbrella organization of companies producing semiconductor wafers in Malaysia. SFAM has agreed to help SEIPI with its plans to move the Philippines’ electronics industry up the value chain. Notably, SEIPI is specifically looking for funding and technology partners like the Malaysian group.
Aside from SFAM, SEIPI is also looking to potentially collaborate with the Malaysian Integrated Chip Designer Association (MICDA), in activities such as integrated circuit (IC) design facility, outsourcing IC design, and packaging activities, trade fairs, faculty immersions, R&D and localization.
Additionally, SEIPI is also interested to partner with the MIMOS National Applied R&D Center which is under Malaysia’s Ministry of Science and Technology. Potential activities to be undertaken with MIMOS are fab setup consultancy, R&D, microelectronics training, and technology transfer.
In 2019, SEIPI signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with France’s Alliance for Components and Systems of French Electronics Industry (ACSIEL). SEIPI intends to continue working with ACSIEL in 2020.
