Philippines Expands Investment in Key Agricultural and Fisheries Projects

Jun 2023

The Senior Undersecretary of the Philippines Department of Agriculture recently highlighted how the Marcos Administration is determined to provide more assistance to the agricultural sector. The government believes that by increasing investments in food production, more employment opportunities will be generated, leading to overall advancement and development.

In partnership with international funding institutions such as the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization, some key recently approved projects include: 1) Adapting Philippine Agriculture to Climate Change (APA); 2) Philippine Fisheries and Coastal Resiliency Project (FishCoRe); 3) Scaled-up Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP); and 4) Mindanao Inclusive Agriculture Development Project (MIADP). This was presented during the National Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Month (NFFM) program celebration. Cumulatively, these projects have a budget of USD 1.17 billion.

The APA project aims to enhance the resilience of agri stakeholders in climate-vulnerable regions. The FishCore project focuses on improving fishery resource management and enhancing fisheries production. The Scale-up PRDP aims to improve market access and increase incomes for farmers and fisherfolk in the agri-fishery value chains. MIADP aims to enhance agricultural productivity, resiliency, and market access.
