The Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Siemens have renewed their partnership to accelerate the Philippines’ Industry 4.0 transformation. The two parties signed a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) on June 7, 2024, solidifying their commitment to digitalizing the country’s manufacturing sector.
A key component of the renewed partnership is the establishment of the Philippines’ first Industry 4.0 Pilot Factory. This state-of-the-art facility will showcase advanced technologies such as digital twins, industrial software, and automation systems, serving as a learning hub for local manufacturers.
Both DTI and Siemens are expanding their collaboration beyond automation. They will explore the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in various industries, including food and beverage, electronics, semiconductors, chemicals, smart cities, autonomous buildings, and e-mobility. This initiative aligns with the government’s goal of establishing a Center for Artificial Intelligence Research later this year.
Building on the success of the first agreement in 2019, the partnership also emphasizes sustainability, with both parties committed to promoting eco-friendly manufacturing practices. The collaboration between DTI and Siemens is seen as a crucial step in positioning the Philippines as a competitive player in the global manufacturing landscape.
