MAN Energy solutions is working with the Indonesian government to supply over 1,000 islands with reliable power. Based in Germany, MAN Energy Solutions is the world’s leading provider of large-bore diesel and gas engines and turbomachinery s for marine and stationary applications.
It recently commissioned three dual-fuel power plants in the country with a total capacity of 140 MW, guaranteeing Energy supply for East and West Nusa Tenggara and generating employment for more than 130 local employees. The company worked in close collaboration with PT Wijaya Karya Tbk (Wika), an Indonesian engineering and construction company, for construction of the power plants and shared EPC responsibility in an open consortium. WIKA took on the assembly of the power plants, while MAN Energy Solutions assumed responsibility for the delivery, assembly monitoring and commissioning of the engines, design of the powerhouse and mechanical and electrical accessories.
MAN Energy Solutions will also maintain and operate the power plants for five years through its after-sales brand, MAN PrimeServ. The company will employ over 130 staff by the end of 2019, of which 90% will be from the local population. Since last year, MAN Energy Solutions has been providing a four-year education program for industrial mechanics, in collaboration with the German-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and other industry partners.
The company is installing power plants at six other islands in Indonesia, with a combined capacity of 125 MW. Tanjung Selor and Biak were equipped with 15 MW engines, Merauke, Langur and Seram were powered with 20 MW engines and the island of Nias was successfully provided with five 7L51/60DF engines with 35 MW total capacity.
