The Philippine government has secured a loan of PHP 37 billion (USD 770 million) to fund the construction of a road project announced by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). Finance Secretary Ralph G. Recto and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Philippines Chief Representative Takema Sakamoto finalized the official development assistance (ODA) loan deals for the Dalton Pass East Alignment Road Project, a key infrastructure initiative under the Philippine government.
DPWH Senior Undersecretary Sadain stressed that the construction of the Dalton Pass East Alignment Road Project will stimulate economic and transportation activities in the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya and the Cagayan Valley Region, which are known for their significant production of rice and corn. The project aims to establish a new pathway as an alternative to the frequently blocked Dalton Pass, often affected by natural disasters.
This road project is expected to be completed by March 2032 and will incorporate Japanese expertise in excavating and constructing a 23-kilometer highway, featuring twin mountain tunnels and 10 bridges.
